Valves and leaks

Behind every shower wall is a valve doing the work.

Cartridges, pressure-balance valves and diverters control temperature, pressure and flow. When they fail, you feel it at the showerhead or see it on the ceiling below.

  • Hot and cold swings
  • Dripping showerheads and spouts
  • Low pressure on one side
  • Leaks that show up on the ceiling below
Installation & conversion

Shower installs planned around the waterproofing.

Pan slope, drain placement, backing and waterproofing decide how long a shower lasts. We plan the plumbing around those layers instead of working around them later.

  • Tub-to-shower conversion plumbing
  • Shower pan and drain placement
  • Valve depth, trim and handle height
  • Waterproofing and backing coordination
Common questions

Before you send the request.

Why does my shower go hot and then cold?

A failing pressure-balance cartridge, sediment in the valve or a supply problem. Tell us the brand and when it happens, and we can narrow it down before we open anything.

Can a shower valve be replaced without removing tile?

Sometimes, depending on the valve and the access. Often there is an access panel on the other side of the wall, or a limited opening is the cleanest option. We look at the wall before we decide.

Water still comes out of the tub spout when the shower is on. Why?

That points to a worn diverter or a cartridge in the valve assembly. Replacing the diverter or cartridge is the usual repair.

How do I know if a shower leak is behind the wall?

Staining, soft drywall, loose tile, a musty smell or a water bill that climbs with no explanation. Fix the moisture before the tile goes back on.

Can you convert a bathtub into a walk-in shower?

Yes. The plumbing side covers moving the drain, setting the valve and supply lines and getting the pan and waterproofing right. Send the bathroom layout and what you want the space to do.
